Everything You Need to Know About Rocking Box Braids (ARTICLE)
While we can’t exactly call box braids a ‘trend’ (women have, after all, been rocking them since ancient Egyptian times), the hairstyle is definitely having a moment. Want proof? Look no further than those influential Sisters Knowles–Beyonce and Solange–who had everyone either talking about or getting braids when they switched up their ‘dos over the summer, inspiring bloggers and style stars across the globe to follow suit.
Aside from just looking great, box braids offer a convenient way to grow hair out, transition from chemically processed locks to natural, or–in my case–take a break from having to think about your hair for about two months. That’s why it’s my go-to style for the dry winter months–when my afro, which thrived in July’s humidity, needs a bit more TLC than I can be bothered to give it. So, with those dreaded months now upon us, I decided to consult the experts for some tips and tricks to tweaking my “braided-hair-don’t-care” attitude to ensure the growth and health of my crowning glory.
